Esmeralda
This is a Lineart commission for Didi-Esmeralda on Deviantart. She won first price in a Disney Christmas contest hence a commission by me.
When I was a kid I totally adored Esmeralda! I even have a Barbie doll of her so it was very much fun to draw her.

And it seems you've created a new creature, never seen a bunny/mermaid before. Hmm, Merbunny?

Yus! A Merbunny! Sooo cute! Those two are actually my two bunnies at home haha! The one trying to get the easter egg with an inocent face is Snickers and the one in the basket is Twixi the lady of the two. They are named after chocolate because they are both so incredibly active! XD Was a lot of fun doing this and turned out better than expected considering the amoung of time invested in it. It's a bit different kind of shading again and I quite like it. Thanks for the compliment by the way

Thanks And you're right, it is. I made this picture kind of as a tribute to my passed grandfather and a friend I lost last year but mostly it's a symbol of hope and memory. I have been thinking a little about a Disney movie and I really like this characters' design. So I was thinking of turning her into the heroine/princess of Hans Christian Anderson's "The wild swans". I totally adore the story and it would be rather easy turning a charming movie out of it. From the story perspective. From animation of cause not at all XD But I'm just fiddling around at the moment. I already got the main theme and song for the 'movie' and the starting scene, some ideas what I want to change from the original fairy tale to the new Disney-ish movie and so on. So maybe I'll do a picture about that movie project or her sometime soon. Not sure if I really want to make anything out of it really. It's just playing around with ideas for the moment. I really want to do one picture for this and after that... we'll see.

Mulan and Mononoke
I'm totally in a Disney mood at the moment XD 'kay these were commissions but I think they went so well because I really like the characters. I'm especially proud how this Mulan picture turned out. I tested a few new things here and it was really fun! Took a while though until I came up with the right concept, pose and stuff. And here's Ghibli's Princess Mononoke in a Disney style:

Another commission finally done! YUS! No it's not Merida. Merida has a rounder face, smaller and fuller mouth and not that many freckles. Plus she's younger than this woman. Was really fun to draw this. And thanks to my new computer I have a new brush I love working with! And I also think that my traditional drawing practice is starting to work. I could finish 4 LineArts yesterday !!! And they all look pretty good, if you'll allow me saying so. So I guess it's really worth the time getting back to traditional drawing once in a while. Keeps your drawing swing loose and dynamic!

"Once upon a time, there was a girl who wondered..."
BAM! So I'm not going to say much about this new project just yet. But you might be able to see where I go the idea from. (Just check out my last entry here) I also got a lot of inspiration and started working on this during my stay in the U.S. the last two weeks.
Feel free to speculate about anything surrounding this project! Use your imagination and go wild!!! Okay XD Anyways, just wanted to share this little something here since it's my official new art project.
It's only a prototype so not the official cover, and the title might change at a later stage.

Princess Dove Another commission I got in recently. This is Princess Dove, daughter of Belle and Adam from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. She's the OC from someone on Deviantart.
I really like how this one turned out. Was a lot of fun creating her and I might even use it as a colouring page myself sometime haha!

Here's the Lineart which might change a little, still. I'll update the full coloured version later.

I find Dove to be an interesting naming choice. I guess the thought there might have been to go with something a little more unique and different. Something like Rose or Rosa might fit better, but is also probably a bit too obvious.
I'm not really seeing Peach with Tracy there. Maybe a tiny bit in the outfit I suppose, but as of now not really seeing it.

Yeah Rose as a name for Belle's daughter is waaaaay too obvious if you ask me. I really like the name "Dove" in this case. It suits her, too.
Yeah the Peach reference is just for the dress and it's only a slight reference. The crown is there and the big round stone thingy. The commission was to draw the commissioners real life face as a disney princess with a NEW dress that had slight similarities to Peache's white gown.

Obvious isn't a bad thing though. And if someone were to give that name to Belle's daughter then I wouldn't view it as an issue. But I don't know the Beauty and the Beast fandom landscape. So I don't know how often used Rose might already be. That'd be my one hesitation with the name.
The crown, certainly. That is a Peach thing. Certainly no issue with the commission, just a curious point as to the Peach points.

My sketch for the day.
You see, I had a dream last night or rather... this morning. I was invited to a grand masquerade ball in Hollywood and was getting really excited about it! I wondered for quite some time what kind of a costume I should pick and ended up with this one. I don't exactly know why but it's supposed to symbolise Elisa from the fairy tale The Wild Swans. I love love looove that fairy tale and always thought Disney should give it a try. Anyway, I actually couldn't talk the night of the ball because I had some temporary sickness of the throat which just meant that it was very painful to use my vocal cords. So when someone asked me about my costume, the explanation turned into a little charade game that I played out for a couple of people, retelling the tale of the Wild Swans without any voice. It was a lot of fun actually, even as the dreamer! I came to like the costume and general idea of the dream so much that I wanted to somehow draw it. This is what came out. Sadly most of the details of the dress were lost during waking up but it's somewhere close to what it looked like. A little Christmas-y, don't you think?

I never got any message mentioning either of the last two posts here, so sorry for the later reply.
For Princess Tracy; I can see a bit more of Peach in her now. It's a little noticeable in the dress and of course the turnips in the background which has become something of a staple for something Peach has fought with since very early in the Mario series.
It's so interesting how often dreams can be so impactful in things we write or draw or other ways they might inspire us!

Beautifully done!
I'm not too aware of the show or character though. A little bit since it's something Truth, Cherokee and Phoenix are a little into. It's a ways down on their list of favorite things, but they do enjoy it.

Thanks for the compliment!
Yeah me neither. I know the show exists and the ideas are quite nice with the daughters and sons of the classy fairy tale characters but it was too fashion focused for my taste. Kind of similar to Winx. The story and character development seems to lack out in comparison to other series.

Post by Cole on Dec 4, 2017 7:11:52 GMT -6
There is some level of intrigue to it as well as with Winx. I've seen bits and pieces of both, but yeah they really lack story and character. And it's very cliché in what they do. The characters and the setting all seemed to suffer from the same stereotypes. You get the feeling that if you watch any of these shows its like watching the same exact show, just different names. And there is a lot of shows that fall in that same category as they do.

It's May the 4th!!! That means: Star Wars day!!! Okay I'm not really a suuuuper big fan of star wars. It's nice and all but there are other things I like more. Still it was fun coming up with a way to combine the current art challenge "Mermay" - drawing mermaids each day of May - and this celebrational day of Star wars. So here is my star wars mermaid! Voilá! I made her of the dark side, kind of a Sith lord or how they are called just because I think it looked cooler. I know physically a lightsaber under water isn't very realistic but... it just looks cool XD Also it's really fun to get back to traditional drawing. I did a mermaid the other day already and then this one, colouring with my good old colour pencils... It's a good distraction and way to relax from all the other stuff going on at the moment. Also a good way to practice outside of the computer.

I am not a fan of Star Wars. I really don't like sci-fi in general. So I didn't even know this May the 4th was a thing. I didn't know Mermay was a thing either. Still though, a very nice job!

|
Post by Yangi on May 4, 2018 3:13:02 GMT -6
Yeah, Mermay is something mostly artists know about. It's a challenge to make a mermaid picture every day or at least a sketch. Same as Inktober where you make ink pictures each day the entire October long. I don't usually participate in these challenges and I don't intend to make a mermaid picture every day. It was just a fun thing to do at the moment. The May the 4th thing I only know because the game I used to work on had a special star wars event each 4th of May. It's because "May the 4th" sounds almost like "May the force" which is like THE quote from star wars (May the force be with you). So star wars fans use this day to celebrate their fandom. There should be a WITCH day... Which one would be good? The one when it was first published? Hm.
